Regular Classroom Activities
HUMAN GEOGRAPHY- This section of the course will examine why people choose to live where they do, resource use, population concerns and demands etc. In essence, this section of the course is the why and how of people's influence on the world and how the world influences us.
AUTONOMY AND INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Within this section, the focus will be the First and Second World Wars, combined with a look at modern crisis. We will spend time examining the key battles, discuss tactical decisions and advances as well as looking at the "human" aspect of war: the soldiers, the victims, the societal repercussions. SOCIETY AND IDENTITY - This section is dedicated to the question "what makes us Canadian?" We will spend time looking at the Human Rights criteria, the Constitution, immigration and migration (both past and present) as well as any other factors that contribute to the fabric that makes us Canadian. POLITICS-The political section of the course will focus on all levels of politics from Municipal, to Provincial and onto Federal. We will spend time looking at the various parties, how elections occur and how to encourage people to have a voice in democracy. Included within all of these domains will be an examination of bias and prejudice. We will also do many forms of partner, group and class discussions and will do regular informal and formal presentations. Less of the course will be focused on textbook concepts and more will focus on case studies, articles and statistics. It is important to note, that the Ministry recommends about 25% of the course be spent |
