Me....
I am currently a senior English/Psychology/Social Studies teacher at Lake City Secondary in Williams Lake, however I have taught everything from Science 8 and Math to PE and Acting to Planning 10 and Psychology (the joy of being a new teacher in a small town).
I graduated from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2005 with a B.A in English/Social Studies/Psychology and a B.Ed in Secondary Education. I started my teaching career in Mackenzie BC, and my husband and I moved to Williams Lake in 2006.
If I am not in the classroom teaching or in the school prepping, I am hanging out with my two children (5 and 7), and my husband. My "extracurricular" activities include anything outside and are completely dependent on spare time (which seems to be less and less lately). Although any outdoor activities top my list of favorites (snowmobiling, quading and hiking); camping and fishing are my all time favorites. My husband is a forestry contractor, so we often tag along on his expeditions as well during my summer holidays.
If I couldn't take my travel trailer on the deserted island as my one permitted item, the very next choice would be a book. I love reading and although I have preferred genres or "styles," I will read anything and will often read it multiple times. Unfortunately, I cannot start a book and not finish it, even if I dislike it, so it requires some time management on my behalf. As an English teacher, I know that I should say that my nightly reading involves some of the great classics, and while it often does, it is more likely to mirror the New York Times Best Seller's List.
As is with many teachers, my New Year does not begin on January 1 of each year, but rather on September 1. Whether it is the start of school or the start of my most favorite season (blue clear winter day at -25 is a close second), September has always felt like the time for new beginnings.
My personal teaching philosophy or ideology:
Educators who compliment their professionalism with enthusiasm, dedication and respect can stimulate and encourage
the personal, social and academic development of contemporary youth
